Minding Your Own Brand - Why Can't I Get That With Whipped Cream?

A few weeks ago, some friends and I were on our yearly trip to Nantucket. According to ritual we stopped by our favorite ice cream shop as soon as we got off the boat. My friend asked for whipped cream on his small cup of chocolate ice cream. The clerk proceeded to tell him that "whipped cream only comes with sundaes." Thinking it was a cost issue, he offered to pay the extra twenty-five cents that they charge to put candy on a cup of ice cream, which he felt would surely cover the cost of a squirt of whipped cream. The clerk refused the offer saying that was the "candy charge" and there is "no way" to charge him for just whipped cream. She went on to say that "the shop policy is that whipped cream can only be put on sundaes." So in order to get whipped cream. he would have to order a sundae with no hot fudge, no nuts and no cherry. He settled for his chocolate ice cream without the added calories, but for the rest of the weekend we all had to l

10 Common Mistakes to Avoid when Making Whipped Cream

Is there anything dreamier than freshly whipped cream? When whipped cream is prepared well, it is an ambrosial foodstuff that has the power to make any dessert it tops even better, from  ice cream  sundaes to pie to hot chocolate. Of course, I’m not averse to enjoying it on a spoon, all by its delicious self. Whipped cream doesn’t always turn out so well, though. When made poorly, whipped cream can come out grainy and separated, too sweet or not sweet enough, or too thin and messy. However, in spite of these possible pitfalls, making whipped cream is not a kitchen project fraught with peril: once you master the basics, you’ll be on your way to making perfect whipped cream every time. What is whipped cream?  In a nutshell, whipped cream is heavy cream which has been whipped until it becomes light and fluffy. Chemically speaking, what happens when you whip cream is that the air gets trapped between a sort of network of  fat droplets , and the cream becomes fluffy and roughly doubled in

How to Make Long-Lasting Whipped Cream

on't weep, whipped cream, it's all going to be alright. Sure, you have a tendency to lose your spine as you sit out for a while (you fall, you run, and, no offense, you become a little unappetizing), but we're about to fix that. Chin up!  There are  lots  of ways to make longer-lasting, more stable whipped cream that won't have a breakdown  as it graces  chocolate cake ,  strawberry ice ,  rhubarb buckle , or a pile of  vegetables  (yes, you read that right). That means more opportunity to prep in advance  and  less of an urge to rush through dinner to get to that  cream-topped lemon custard pie  (though, let's be real, I do that no matter what). The methods for achieving dependable whipped cream fall into two main categories: additional ingredients or whipping technique. Here's how to make fluffy, swoopy whipped cream that'll last as long as your dreamiest summer party.

Visit the LinkedIn Tavern: Find the Right Groups for You

Based on my 2011 LinkedIn User Survey, the LinkedIn feature most people selected as being the most helpful in their LinkedIn strategy was Groups. Not only was this the first time in the three years I have been conducting this survey that Advanced People Searching was not the winner, but this was the highest response rate to this question ever, with over 82% of the respondents picking this feature as most helpful. In previous surveys, Groups always held a spot somewhere in the top three. So clearly most people find this feature helpful. If you are not feeling the same way, you might want to reconsider your approach and usage. Let me start by asking you this question: "Would it be beneficial for you to know where the most connected people in your industry are hanging out? It is sort of like the corner tavern or neighborhood meeting spot. If you know where the action is in your neighborhood, you tend to go there in order to get caught up on what is going on, in hopes that the people
